Garage Kegels Turnhout

Garage Kegels switches to LED lighting and solar for maximum savings

At Garage Kegels in Turnhout is all about offering a wide range of car brands, including Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Abarth and Jeep. Their mission is to guide customers through the purchase process by offering a wide range of models on favorable terms, so that each customer is happy to hit the road in their new car.

The challenge: Outdated lighting and limited roof structure

Garage Kegels was struggling with outdated halogen and fluorescent lighting, which led to high energy costs and inefficient lighting in their spacious showrooms. In addition, they wanted to become more sustainable by switching to solar energy. However, the roof structure of the older building, particularly the lack of sufficient support columns, made installing conventional solar panels problematic due to the weight and impact on the stability of the building.

Efficient lighting and innovative solar solution

At Ecobeam we believe in a thoughtful and structured approach. We are not just going to replace light bulbs, but look for the best solution for each specific situation. At Garage Kegels, this process was as follows:

1. Thorough consultation with the client
  • We began with an extensive conversation to understand Garage Kegels' specific needs and challenges.

  • The focus was on energy savings and a sustainable solar power generation solution.
2. Lighting study and energy analysis
  • We conducted a detailed lighting study to determine optimal lighting.
  • All old halogen and fluorescent fixtures were replaced with energy-efficient LED fixtures, resulting in a significant reduction in energy consumption and improved lighting quality in the showrooms.
3. Installation of lightweight solar panels
  • Given the limited load-bearing capacity of the roof, we opted for lightweight solar panels from DAS Energy. Ideal for roofs with limited bearing capacity, these panels provide a sustainable energy solution without compromising the structural integrity of the building.

  • We installed 120 300 Wp DAS Energy panels, resulting in a total capacity of 36,000 Wp. These panels power the entire showroom lighting during the day, now sustainably powering the largest electricity consumer.
