KFC Broechem is a dynamic soccer club in the heart of Broechem, Antwerp. With strong local roots and a rich club history, it offers KFC Broechem a home for both youth and senior teams and is committed to inclusiveness with a G soccer program, among other things. In addition to the sports component, the club regularly organizes events that bring the community together, such as the annual "Dinner & Dance" and various sports camps.
To offer players of all ages and levels the best possible conditions, KFC Broechem continuously invests in infrastructure. Field lighting plays a key role in this: good visibility increases not only the quality of play, but also the safety of players and supporters. With the growth of the club and increasing training hours, it was time to optimize the lighting on the grounds.
KFC Broechem had three illuminated fields: one match field and two training fields, all of which were still equipped with outdated 2000 watt gas discharge lamps. A major problem arose on the B-field, where matches were also played. The KBVB requires an official lighting inspection, but the existing installation no longer met the standards. As a result, evening matches were no longer allowed to take place, which threatened a significant loss of revenue.
Moreover, simply replacing them was not an option, as these old gas lamps are no longer produced and are no longer available commercially. This necessitated a sustainable and future-proof solution.
After initial contact with KFC Broechem, we scheduled a site visit to thoroughly analyze the situation. During this site-survey we examined the existing installation and discussed possible solutions with the club.
The inspection showed that most of the current pylons could be retained, which significantly reduced installation costs. However, it was necessary to install at one of the two training fields install two additional masts to ensure even illumination.
To arrive at the optimal solution, we have a detailed light simulation performed. This allowed us to determine exactly how much and what type of sports lighting was needed. Based on this, we prepared a custom quote so that KFC Broechem knew exactly what to expect. Moreover, this approach ensured that the new lighting more than met KBVB standards, so evening games became possible again.
To minimize the impact for KFC Broechem, we phased the installation. Priority was given to the B-field, so that evening games could take place there again. The lighting of the two training fields was planned for the following season, allowing the club to spread the investment.
For optimal and even illumination, we have developed our EAGLE sports fixtures installed. Thanks to the modular design of these fixtures, we were still able to achieve high light output with a limited number of devices and lower power.
After installation and accurate adjustment according to the lighting plan, we performed a comprehensive light measurement. This was done based on the same measurement protocol used by the KBVB, so the club had absolute assurance that the new lighting was well within standards.
